Vision

To provide a happy, nurturing and safe community for our children and their families.  To live and promote our core values of kindness, responsibility and aspiration. To teach a curriculum with high expectations, which enables all pupils to succeed.  Children will be challenged and inspired to be the very best they can be.  At Bempton School we are one family with the children at the heart of everything we do.

Aims

  • For everyone in our school to be kind, responsible and aspirational.
  • For all pupils to feel happy and safe in school with trusted, nurturing adults to care for them.
  • To have high expectations for all pupils, by teaching a curriculum which enables all to succeed.
  • To provide pupils with a range of experiences and opportunities to broaden their interests, responsibilities and aspirations.
  • For pupils to be taught an effective programme of personal development from Early Years onwards.
  • To engage our children, while encouraging them to be independent learners and to embrace challenge as part of the learning experience.

Our Curriculum

Intent

Our curriculum has been designed to provide opportunities and experiences to develop children socially, emotionally and spiritually to become confident, well rounded individuals.

All children, irrespective of background, will receive the same relevant curriculum which exposes them to cultural experiences beyond the local environment and celebrates the differences and richness each child can bring.

We as educators will provide a constructive approach to learning which is child led and appreciates each pupil's uniqueness and ensures all learners have an active role in their educational journey.

As a collaboration we share the following values that we believe will support our pupils to fulfill their potential to become responsible citizens and unite us in our vision to create leaders of the future.

  • Responsibility
  • Resilience
  • Respect
  • Our practice follows the principles of effective learning. These are:
  • Exploring
  • Positive attitude
  • Involvement and concentration
  • Embracing challenge and developing resilience
  • Enjoy achieving
  • Creative and thinking critically
  • Independent thinking
  • Linking learning
  • Determination to complete and improve
  • Choosing ways to do things

Implementation

The following aspects drive our curriculum:

  • child led - following the interests, experiences and questions our children bring with them to school.  We also ensure that our exciting curriculum is relevant to the ever changing needs of our pupils.
  • Enriched curriculum that challenges and excites, both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Community links which helps pupils to become active and responsible members of our school, the local community and beyond.

We have structured our curriculum so that knowledge and skills within each subject are progressive and show continuity.

Our academic curriculum uses both the EYFS and the National Curriculum as a basis for content and expectations.  We build upon this to fully equip children as well-rounded individuals prepared for the modern world.

Each term will have different topics which will allow the children to develop a thirst for knowledge and an eagerness to learn.

Impact

Progress is measure through the careful analysis of the application of skills across the curriculum showing how acquisition of knowledge is enhanced by expectations to evidence quality thinking and demonstrate understanding
